Warning
by Jenny Joseph

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the payment when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn how to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

To be a champ you have to believe in yourself when nobody else will.

Storyteller’s Creed

I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge.
That myth is more potent than history.
That dreams are more powerful than facts.
That hope always triumphs over experience.
That laughter is the only cure for grief.
And I believe that love is stronger than death.

Starlust

To walk the sands of an alien world,
To feel the wind and breathe the air …
What longing lies within my soul
That stirs emotions lost in time,
That makes me crave a double-star,
A red-hued sky and rings of gold?

To dig bare feet in dusky beach
And watch the wonders of fiery ocean-
Is it not our destiny to go
And seek fulfillment in the Void,
To sate this craving in man’s soul
Before the memory is again destroyed.

I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.

Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it.  Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality.  It can be no other way.  This is not philosophy.  This is physics.

Albert Einstein

…it was his business to help them play.  He could think of nothing better to do with his life, for he knew that when they felt free to play, their souls showed; who they were came out more clearly than at almost any other time.  And the more one got used to letting one’s self show, unafraid, the more joy came walking into one’s life.  And then the Self showed itself still more–and the cycle continued, joy engendering joy, endless.  He leaned on the wall, warm with the thought of what his work was freeing those around him to be.

Playing or writing…

Hello world!

Inspiration from Quotations

I have always loved reading quotes.  Sometimes they give me writing ideas, sometimes they give me insights about life, and often they make me smile.

On this website I will have two blogs: a daily one on quotations, and a (approximately) weekly one on other stuff.

February 22, 2012 Quote:

Today is mine.  It is unique.  Nobody in the world has one exactly like it.  It holds the sum of all my past experiences and all my future potential.  I can fill it with joyous memories or ruin it with fruitless worry.  If painful recollections of the past come into my mind, or frightening thoughts of the future, I can put them away.  They cannot spoil today for me.  It is mine.
